The City of Jackson Announces Launch of Redesigned JTRAN Bus Network

Beginning Monday, March 4, 2024, JTRAN riders will experience better bus routes, simpler service, and more straightforward connections – all designed to get riders where they need to go quickly and more efficiently. The bus network improvements beginning on March 4 include a fully-redesigned JTRAN bus network with new routes, schedules, and bus stops. JTRAN riders are encouraged to visit to see how their route changes.

“We know that a lack of transportation plays a detrimental role on many social outcomes of residents, said Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba. “So, as a city, we have efforted to significantly improve our public transportation system to accommodate as many residents as possible to improve access to healthcare, employment security and healthy food options. Today is a great day for the City of Jackson and I’d like to express my gratitude to the Planning Department for their hard work in making this a reality.”

The JTRAN improvements stem from ConnectJXN: Transit Plan – a plan to make the JTRAN bus service work better for everyone. Through community and stakeholder outreach, the voices of JTRAN riders were heard, and a final plan was published in early 2022. Today’s bus network improvements are part of a more extensive program of enhancements launched recently, including a fresh new look, a redesigned website, better bus shelters, onboard announcements for upcoming stops, and a trip planning app providing riders with real-time schedule information.

“The redesign of the bus network and new accommodations are the result of a comprehensive review of the needs of our JTRAN riders,” said Deputy Director of Transportation, Christine Welch. “We have made the system more accessible and efficient, and as a result, we believe it will improve the quality of life of Jackson residents who rely on our public transportation system.”
